L.A. Bay is quite a drive, but as stated, it's a very nice place. Many enjoy being in town, or camping for a small fee thereabouts.
South of town are areas for exploration (and other places to camp). I usually stay just north near La Gringa (no fee).
Only thing to note: December time is notorious for hard-blowing winds in the area. Hard to predict.
Puerticitos, or points just south, may not be a bad idea considering.
